While vacationing in St. George this past weekend, I found myself mentally returning to former eating habits. I wanted to snack on nuts (4 points/30 nuts) or get a treat (ice cream!). So I did. I could quickly see that being aware of the points it would cost me, and whether or not I was "satisfied" made a difference as to how I felt after eating. The WeightWatchers definition of satisfied has to do with hunger, but I defined it differently - did I satisfy my emotional craving? I always knew I ate emotionally, and I didn't want to give that up (for obvious reasons), but awareness of what that was costing me has caused me to readjust my thinking. Ice cream filled me up but left me feeling bloated. A wonderful thick well seasoned chicken breast filled me up and left me feeling great. After a not-so-good tasting piece of chicken, all I wanted was a bit of something sweet so that chicken taste wouldn't linger. 2-3 bites of chocolate cake sufficed; I didn't need the whole piece.
What a revelation! I'm back home and ready to tackle identifying what will keep me "satisfied" by my own definition. Anybody else have any revelations while participating in The Pact?
