Today I ran into Susan Romney at Costco. I told her that my 2 daughters & I had joined Weight Watchers. She said that she had "done that" years ago and lost a lot of weight. "Of course, I put it all back on," she said. I was not discouraged by that. Just like I wasn't discouraged hearing that some women take their trackers to dinner and make everyone uncomfortable calculating points while eating.
Because -that's not me! I won't let it be.
I am so excited about changing how I eat, how I think about eating, and how I think about my life, that I know I will not ever go "back" to the way I ate before. It wasn't enjoyable. It was defeating. I even worried that I might be addicted to food - I just couldn't seem to stop myself from overeating.
But now I'm committed (even though I only have 13 pounds to lose for my 10%) to staying with Weight Watchers until I've maintained that loss. I love it! I surprise myself, but I do. I was clapping the hardest for the woman this morning who has lost 15 pounds. Good for her.
I can only think the secret lies in the mantra: stop dieting, start living. As long as I think of this as a temporary situation and when this is over, I'll return to my former way of life, I am guaranteed to return to my former weight. But this is what I've been waiting for and longing for - REAL CHANGE. Not just temporary change. Lifetime change.
You bet I'm excited. How often do we get to make real lifetime changes? And how often is someone there to help us. Thanks, girls. I couldn't do it without you. Believe me, I've tried. And believe me, I've failed. But not this time. This time it's for keeps.
Hooray for us!
