Hey, everybody, I got on the treadmill 3 times during the last week! I'm so proud of myself. And despite the foibles of trying to read the book "The Help" (it fell off the stand a number of times while I was exercising), I managed to complete 30 minutes in each stretch.
I couldn't understand why I was only walking 1 mile (2.0 mi/hr) in the 30 minutes and yet I was sweating and panting. Peg and I walk an 18 min. mile in the summer and carry on a conversation the entire time. And I almost never sweat. I asked your Dad (the expert in everything) why that might be. He asked me if I had the treadmill on an incline. It never occurred to me to wonder about that; I just thought the treadmill came that way. He further explained that when they do a stress test on a patient, the incline is usually 10%. I looked on the panel, saw the chart marked "incline %," and there was a light on the 10. No wonder I'm winded! I've been walking uphill!
Nevermind the low # of miles, I feel energetic and active just doing it. And I've read about 100 pages of my book as well.
This morning, Peg and I did our first walk of the season. We walked 2 miles in 30 minutes and talked the entire way. I guess 15th East isn't a 10% incline.
How's everyone else doing?

Not good this week. I've been playing nurse to my broken-faced husband and remodeling the kitchen all weekend. Does that count as exercise? Plus I have been under the weather for the past few days and it has really decreased my motivation to exercise since I've felt so crappy. BUT, tonight is softball (does that count?) and I'm feeling better, so here's to a productive rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteYou get extra activity points for walking uphill- did you know that?
ReplyDeleteMadelyn, softball totally counts, especially if you run!
I can't believe you are going back to the scene of the crime. (softball)
